And that’s when I woke up. Awoken from the state of mind that drifted off into another dimension non-related to the one I sat in now. I had let my heart guard itself, until Nick actually came into existence and broke down the walls.
Yet I felt my lips buzz a bit, as if they just finished a sentence. I pursed my lips together, and after licking them silently from utter silence, it was as If I tasted what I’d just admitted. I had told him, but I was too embarrassed to face what I had caused.
Nick’s POV
‘Nick, I’m in love with you’. It echoed in the corners of my mind, as if making time with my heart which had seemed to stop, even if for just a moment. And yet as cliché’ as it sounds, it felt like forever.
I looked over at her. She was a growing woman, and as I eyed her up and down, I wondered how such a beauty landed by my side. She had her head bowed down, probably feeling resentment and I as a person only making it worse by being quiet.
I cleared my throat, trying not to result in my voice cracking. “Y-You’re in love with me?” She turned to face me, a light crimson red on the apples of her cheeks, yet it made me smile. IDIOT! Why’d you ask her the same thing if it took her so long to say something like this?
She played with the hem of her dress that seemed to cut off for the fact of her long, lean legs. STOP! Focus Man. I had always felt something different with Selena. And this just gave me joy, but New York and not being by her side made my heart ache.
She shook her head softly, trying to utter out words, when I placed my hand under her chin and let her words get cut off by my touch. “How long—” You don’t ask a girl how long. That’s…idiotic. But then again, aren’t I an idiot for not taking the chance before.
“Why didn’t you tell me before?”, I uttered out, though my mind longed for more questions and my heart answering what I had wanted for a while with her. She seemed to have taken a moment, but she regained what confidence she had left from my answer after.
She let out a small laugh as she shook her head once more. “Because we were best friends, I didn’t want to risk the friendship, and New York and separate lives got in the way?”. Selena looked up at me, my instincts only telling me to do one thing, but was it too soon? Her eyes locked with mines, a soul of sincerity and love lying within them. We could take, we COULD’VE taken the chance, I wanted to say and as I took the breath, ready to take the leap for something we both wanted but never risked—
“SEL!”
Joe plopped down in between us as I let my hand meet my chin in an agitated manner. Why? Why I ask is he even here? Why does this always happen?
“H-Hey Joe” The girl bared her soul out and I was too busy thinking instead of just DOING. I have to fix that. In less than a few minutes, though it was unlike Joe in a way, a slur pertained in the way of his words. Great. He was drunk. But maybe it’ll give me time to Take Selena away, talk this ove—”Where were you guyyyss? I was looking everywhere for yaaaa”.
Reptiles have a bad reputation and idiots, like the Florida man whose girlfriend’s 2-year-old kid was killed by a large snake, make things even worse.
I have read about the HR 669 bill and it scares me.
I fear that the owning of reptiles will be outright banned because of a few idiots who don’t know what they’re doing and only buy them for selfish reasons, like wanting to look "cool."
The ignorant public [not everyone, of course] buys into what the media says about scaly creatures, which is that they are monsters, ugly, stupid, killing machines, etc.
Dogs attack and kill people every year and no one wants to ban them.
You could argue and claim that the reason there are more canine attacks in the U.S. is because there are more…well…canines.
Yes, that is true but even still, a significant number of pet reptiles exist in this country, an estimated ten million according to my research.
Care to share your thoughts?
The link below shows the estimated number of pets in the U.S.
I am not typing poorly about dogs; I like them myself.
I simply stated a fact.
I think people should need a liscence to keep reptiles and pet shops should need a liscence to stock them. That way only people who are willing to make the effort to care for their pets properly would get a reptile and not those who get them to look "cool" like you said. Many of the ridiculously naive questions,on here and some of the poor care conditions in petco for instance are evidence enough for that. Hardly anyone researches their pets or even bother learning anything about them and this results in terrible conditions, illnesses and death. It’s time for people to wake up and realise that reptiles and other exotics are living beings, not novelties.
I know some people would disagree with me but I think large snakes such as pythons and boas should require a DWA (Dangerous Wild Animals Liscence) to be kept. I’m not saying their vicious but they are potentially deadly to humans. They are designed for killing large mammals! If you read through the Darwin Awards (a book of stupid deaths) many people have been killed by their pet snakes because they did not take the right precautions.
I also agree that more public education is needed. The majority of snakes are harmless, but many people kill them left, right and center just because theiy’re scared of it being venomous. If you live in an area where there are venomous snakes, why the hell would you not take the time to learn about your areas wildlife! There is the mentality that harmful animals like snakes, spiders, bees and wasps are "out to get you" when really it’s only for defence. If you treat them with respect, they will leave you alone. And yes there is the attitude that reptiles are "cold blooded killers" when really the average lizard is less harmful then your pet hamster. Banning such pets as leopard geckos and anoles because of attacks by pythons is ridiculous! In the same way you wouldn’t ban lapdogs and labradors because of attacks by a few mastiffs and pitbulls.
WOW, love that it’s cooler today, have let pups play outside a couple of times for 10 to 15 minutes! They are having a blast & learning all sorts of fun stuffies
