Pros and Cons of Buying Pet Medicine Online

Posted under pet discount

Pets are many things in many ways but they are not responsible.
Not outside of very limited doggy parameters. This means that
you are 100% responsible for your pet’s health. In this day of
seemingly limitless online medication options, the only way to
face this challenge is through education. Freedom of choice is
only a benefit when you are familiar with the choices.

The easy availability of medications online has placed extra
pressure on society to moderate its own behavior responsibly. It
has placed even more pressure on human beings using the Internet
to shop for pets that are entirely reliant on them for their
wellbeing.

Buying pet medicine online offers a level of consumer freedom
that is enough to make one dizzy. In the old days we would take
our pet to our local veterinarian who would counsel us on the
right way to deal with our pet’s health issues. This was a
relief in two obvious ways: we could be guided by an expert and
we could shift a little of the weight of responsibility. Today
it is possible to go online, diagnose and medicate our own pet.

This is a boon on the one hand, and a very serious danger on the
other. With the aid of the Internet we are empowered to act
somewhat independently of traditional channels. This is a
qualified bonus only if we are almost uncomfortably aware of the
fact that we do not have years of veterinary experience behind
us. This awareness should hopefully make us doubly cautious as
we navigate these unfamiliar waters with our newfound freedom.

The bonus is a qualified one because it should not take the
place of veterinary expertise when that is appropriate. The
question of how to discern when that is appropriate is the
million-dollar question. Websites play experts and they do so
with expertise but it is not necessarily the expertise we need.

A favorite tactic is to dot the website with white clad
‘experts’ who profess to a proficiency they don’t have. It is
important to note that the figures are often just models paid to
pose with an air of authority. We need something more than a
show of proficiency when it comes to the lives of our precious
pets.

The bottom line is this; nothing can take the place of a visit
to the veterinarian when your pet is sick. Attempting to
diagnose your pet’s ailment yourself can have devastating
consequences. When time is of the essence, wasting it waiting
for cost effective, online drugs to be shipped to your door is
not only unwise but inhumane.

Buying pet medicine online has a limited application. Within
these boundaries it can be both benign and cost effective. This
avenue works best with repeat medications like flea, tick,
worming and heart medications. If you are considering taking
advantage of the online option let your vet know. He or she will
have to write out a prescription for you to use when purchasing
online. Many services also offer to call the vet directly. Your
delivery date will be reliant on prompt communication between
the online company and the veterinarian’s office working
together to share information.

Purchasing non-prescription drugs for your pet online is also a
matter for caution and consideration. Because certain drugs do
not require a prescription does not mean that they are not
potentially dangerous if administered unwisely. Read
instructions carefully. Good websites take their role as
educator seriously. Most have extensive information online
regarding dosages and side effects.

Avoid or be cautious regarding prices that are way below market
on pet medications. Most legitimate companies hover in the same
discount region. Outrageous savings are normally only offered by
fly by night companies offering questionable product.

Posted under pet discount

Hi:
I was wondering which pet insurance is the best and most reliable for my 1 years old mini schnauzer?(I do not want to spend too much, but still need the basic stuff such as vaccine…etc) In addition, I am planning to buy another one, so will there be any discount for 2 dogs in the same plan?
thanks for answer me.
I am using Banfield right now, but I do not think it is worth it to get what I paid.

Craig's list- how do I find the right place to live?

Posted under canine cooler

I am a senior lady with a small dog who needs an affordable apt. to rent. I am the perfect tenant. I live in Ventura, Ca. right now but am able to live in Oxnard also. I must live close to the coast for the cool weather..I need a ground floor apt because I use a wheelchair. I would love to find a senior community that I could afford because I am alone and need someone besides my canine friend to talk to.Can anyone out there help me please? I would like a one bedroom apt but if all I can afford is a studio it is ok. I will have to have a hugh yard sale because I have a lot of furniture.I wish to stay in Ventura,Oxnard or near by.If there is a bungalow in back of a large house available, I would love to see it.

don't know about criags list but I do know that www.hud.gov has listings of low income apts..u can also go to rent.com, key in the amount u want to pay for rent, etc and see what pop's up.. The dog will be the problem.. i have a dog too but most landlords will not allow pets. Have u checked on getting on sect. 8 or HUD.. If u are on sect. 8, ur voucher transfers.

Do you have to get Frontline or Heartguard from your vet ? Are the strengths the same through mail or retail ?

Posted under heartguard

I heard that the medication was not as strong and that it couldn't be because it was not prescribed by a vet. Why do vets charge so much for it? I'm very confused at what to do. I want my animals protected but I also don't want to break the bank. Does anyone have a better prouduct that would be equal? I know if you get Crest white strips from your Dentist they are a much higher strenghth then what is available at any store. Could this be the same for animals meds?

I didn't buy my flea preventatives or heartworm pills from my Dr. b/c they are usually over priced. I ordered mine from:
www.drsfostersmith.com
That website is really well known, and is actually run by 2 vets. You will need to get a prescription from your vet to send to them before you can order the heartworm meds. I had compared their prices to other on-line sites and even Petco/Petsmart (for flea preventative only, since they don't carry heartworm meds) and drsfostersmith.com was the cheapest (with shipping included).

Oh and I asked my vet about the whole "if your dog already has heartworms and you give them a HW pill, it will kill them" thing and she said no, it won't. She said the pills in the past had a different active ingredient that would react negatively against the HWs and the present ones are fine. Actually she said if you give your dog a HW pill and your dog already has HWs, it will only prevent new HWs from living in your pet and won't have any effect on the current worms.

How close is a premium kibble like Orijen to a raw diet?

Posted under canine supplements

Any good websites or books for feeding dogs a raw diet?

Do you add rice for dogs prone to weight gain?
Should fruit and vegtables that canines can safely eat be added?
Is it necessary to supplement raw feeding with vitamins?

How close if Orijen to a raw diet, could you combine raw and kibble?

This question must be tailored for me! How close is a high quality kibble to raw? I'd say not within telescope distance. High quality, grain-less kibbles are obviously head and shoulders over grocery store brands but they're still cooked and have veggies. Feeding veggies isn't bad, but it's not good either. Nothing is gained or lossed when feeding veggies so I don't bother with them at all, they're just a filler. Rice is a grain, and grains are the #1 food allergen in dogs. Grains also break down into sugars, more sugar than a dog needs. It's not necessary to supplement with vitamins if you feed a raw diet correctly…that said, I give a vitamin once a week anyway even though I'm 100% confident they're not needed…habit I guess, but it can't hurt, only help. I do however supplement with salmon oil for the Omega 3 and 6 which farmed animals are known to be low in. You can combine raw and kibble just not in the same meal and preferably not the same day. But there's no need to continue feeding kibble at all so why not cut it out? I feed a raw prey modeled diet. 70% muscle meat, 20% organ, and 10% bone. I feed more organ because in my personal experience the more dominant a wolf or dog is, the more organ he eats at a kill…so there must be some benefit to it. If you want any menu plans or my opinions on which kinds of meats you should possibly steer clear of, or which ones are plentiful, healthy and inexpensive, feel free to e-mail me!

That goes to anybody who reads my posts, if you're interested in feeding raw, feel free to e-mail me. I'll help the best I can.
