At what point do you decide that it’s time to put your dog to sleep? My parents are almost…?

Posted under canine cooler

…there and need some advice.
My mom is VERY attached to her and is having a hard time making a good decision, and the vet is NO help. He keeps saying that its up to my parents.

Aparently Marley has a canine version of alzheimers or something. She forgets where to use the bathroom and does it in the living room almost always. She is really skinny and doesn’t do much anymore.

She is a lab, and the coolest dog ever. She has been with our family since I was a teenager. She’s around 12.

What advice do you have for my parents? My dad is pretty level-headed, but he won’t override my mom’s decision to keep Marley alive. I just worry that she is suffering without letting us know.

Also, I don’t live at home. I haven’t seen Marley in a few months, so I can’t evaluate things for myself. I can only give support and advice from afar.

We went through it with our ‘Sparky’ a couple of years ago.. .and, more recently, with our dog, Spike.

In hindsight, I honestly think we prolonged it too long.. .but, there came a time when each dog lost control of their bowels, lost a lot of use of their back legs…

Spike became very confused and seemed very anxious.. .very clingy and scared.

I could never really tell if they were in pain, but the time just came when I had to put my sadness on the back burner and consider that our pet had no more ‘quality of life’…what was best for HIM.

My hubby just can’t handle things like this…so.. .once he agreed that it was ‘time’…I called the vet and had him come to the house.

Spike laid comfortably on his own bed in his own kitchen…I sat on the floor, petting him, with his head in my lap. The vet gave him the first shot to relax him.. .and then the final injection.

There was no trama for him.. .no upset of taking him to the vet’s office, waiting in the waiting room, having to face strangers after… .It was very private and relaxed for him.. .and me.

I would sincerely suggest that, when Marley no longer has any ‘quality’ to her life.. .that your parents have the vet make a ‘house call’. I believe your mom will just ‘know’ when the time is right.

We have both of our dogs buried in tha yard and each has a ‘marker’ with their name and picture on it. It is actually comforting to be able to ‘visit’ them out there…

My son and daughter-in law had their dog cremated and her ashes put into a pretty urn. They have her picture next to the urn on the mantle.

I hope sharing my experiences helps.. .it’s such a difficult decision… Helen

How to end my essay……………………..?

Posted under canine cooler

When I was a child, my father used to go hunting. He was a well known wolf hunter in the local community for saving farmers’ animals from wolves. At the age of fourteen, I was allowed to go hunting with my father. One day, at daybreak, my dad, some other locals and I followed wolf tracks. After several hours of pursuit, we found a wolf lair. There were no scents of the adult wolves, but sophisticated hunters said that the wolves could not have had time to move their cubs. Eventually, the old hunters were right about the wolves. After digging the rocks of the lair for quite a time, we found four wolf cubs and my father gave me one as a present.
After coming back home, I was so happy about having a wolf cub and considered it the same as a dog. So, I tied the wolf cub outside my home and fell in a deep sleep, dreaming of having a wolf pet. The next morning, I found out that the poor wolf cub was killed by my dog. I blamed my dog greatly; however, ever since then, I started to realize that the wolves weren’t exactly the same as dogs. I am now twenty, no longer the child I used to be. My major will be biology and one of the topics I am interested in is the differences and similarities between dogs and wolves.
Scientifically, dogs and wolves have one common ancestor. About fifteen thousand years ago, humans started domesticating dogs. Because dogs and wolves had common ancestor, there are many similarities between dogs and wolves. First, their method of locomotion is the same. It is called digitigrade. Digitigrade means their movements are often swift and silent. Second, domestic dogs and wolves both have forty two teeth although wolves’ four canine teeth are much longer. Third, dogs and wolves share keen senses of smell and hearing. Because of this ability, humans use dogs to track criminals, to look for drugs and to seek lost people. For wolves, their smelling and hearing ability is mainly used to chase prey; to make sure their property is safe from other animals and to find their females. Lastly, both dogs and wolves have to pant to keep cool. Dogs and wolves’ bodies can only cool themselves primarily through an evaporation system that involves their tongue. Although their bodies do have sweat glands located on their feet and ears, their bodies are cooled off mainly through the tongue. In fact, these are the main similarities between dogs and wolves.
Despite having similarities, there are also major differences between dogs and wolves. Having been trained for centuries, dogs make a good pet and are useful in many ways. Unlike dogs, wolves never make a good pet. Wolves are affectionate and adoring to their caretakers, but not to any stranger, ever. Wolves have only one owner they respect, but anyone else is a subordinate. Wolves will show this not through aggression, but through disrespect. Also, dogs breed twice a year whereas wolves breed only once a year. According to scientists, dogs started to breed twice a year because of human domestication. However, wolves kept their natural habit and still breed once a year. Another difference is that dogs bark a lot whereas wolves rarely bark. When wolves bark, it sounds nothing like that of a domestic dogs’ bark. Not only their breeding habit is different, but their tail location is also different. In normal condition, dogs walk, stand and trot with tail up. However, wolves’ tails are always down in normal condition. These are the differences between dogs and wolves.

SO…This is the intro of my essay and since the introduction is a story,it is kinda hard for me to end this. After these two intro paragraph, the main bodies talk about similarities and differences. Can someone help me to write the conclusion please?

I hardly would have thought that a childhood hunting expedition, with my father, would result in my choice of career. The loss of a wild, new pet has triggered a life-long pursuit of knowledge to study, analyze, interpret and hopefully understand the many similarities and vast differences between ancestral canine relatives, dogs and wolves.

Hot Chocolate (Горячий Шоколад) – Beregi ( Береги) [OFFICIAL VIDEO]

Posted under heartguard

+ lyrics & translation

Hot Chocolate – Beregi (Remix 2010)

(x2)
Guard, guard my heart
Guard, guard my soul,
Be with me and I don’t need anyone else.

You’ve said to me that love will be higher,
Higher than stars, stronger than water.
With every breathe we are closer.
Further from us slips away earth.

(х2)
Guard, guard my heart
Guard, guard my soul,
Be with me and I don’t need anyone else.

Without you I’m like an angel without wings,
So lonely without you in my soul.
I’ve been long keeping silence, but I haven’t forget,
It’s not possible to forget, how you kissed me.

(х2)
Guard, guard my heart
Guard, guard my soul,
Be with me and I don’t need anyone else.

Good Canine Arthritis Supplement?

Posted under canine supplements

We have a 14 yr. old Siberian Husky who has developed arthritis. He’s stiff when getting up and sitting/laying down. Because of some elevated liver enzymes, he cannot take any prescription arthritis meds. He is taking Tramadol for pain and a joint supplement (Super Joint Enhancer) from PetMeds. His arthritis has not gotten any worse on the Joint Enhancer, but it hasn’t really made a visible difference either. I found a Joint Rescue and Supplement on petwellbeing.com, but it only has 1 review. There are a bunch of different supplements out there "sworn to work" too. Does anyone give their older dog a supplement for arthritis that has made a big difference & that they would recommend? Jake (our Husky) thanks you!
The Tramadol for pain control is from his Vet, but she suggested we keep him on a supplement as well. The current ones are Glucosamine/Condroitin.

We gave our GSD chondroitin and glucosamine pills. The same ones my husband takes. Because of his size, I gave him a full 1,800 mg per day (one 900 mg pill in the morning, one at night).

Our vet was fully aware of the supplements we gave him.

I purchased the medication at WalMart in the supplement aisle, not the pet section. Once I saw the difference after a couple of weeks, I wish I had started giving them earlier.

Don’t get me wrong, he wasn’t bounding around like a puppy but his movements were noticeably easier and less painful.
