Metal tooth replacement?

Posted under canine cooler

Just a random thought i had, would it be possible to get all your teeth replaced with metal ones? I suppose it would need to be a non toxic, unreactive, hard metal but it would be pretty cool to have something like titanium teeth with extended canines/vampire fang type thingies

I don’t suggest you replace your teeth if you don’t have to. Covering/replacing teeth for any type of crown or "cap" means you have to have the naural tooth ground down. Plus it would be a COSTLY and TIMELY process to do this.

Rolling dog says “No Heartguard for me!”

Posted under heartguard

0 Rolling dog says No Heartguard for me!This is Nala. This is the same dog that had no problem helping herself to 39 prescription strength Ibuprofen or eating an air freshener that made her face look like a Sharpei instead of a Lab. For whatever reason, heartguard is where she draws the line, and would prefer not to eat it. I have never seen a dog roll around a pill before, so I thought others might find this funny too.

what can i do to help my hot dog stay cool?

Posted under canine cooler

We adopted a 70lbs, 1 year old, black lab/rottie/something mix about a month ago. Hes a black, double coated dog, with very high energy, and needs a lot of exercise. I’m a firm believer that a well exercised dog, is a happy dog (and a better behaved dog too!)

I’m a bit worried because he always seems hot to me. After a walk or playing ball in the back yard , He will pant heavily for at least an hour… then it slows down to a calmer pant for another hour or two. He can’t stand to cuddle for more than 5 minutes because he gets too hot and then he goes to the one unfinished part of the basement to lay on the cement. And today is one of the warmest days since we’ve had him…. Its about 45 degrees.

I’m just really worried about this summer when we get temps into the 80s and 90s. What can we do to help keep him cool?

Right now, he always has open access to cool drinking water and his favorite treats are ice cubes. He is still a bit underweight (hes put on about 5 lbs since we’ve had him, the vet said about 10 more pounds should do it). The only things I can think of to do this summer is to buy a small kiddy pool for him to play in and to maybe buy a cooling vest. http://www.ruffwear.com/Swamp-Cooler-Dog-Cooling-Vest-Sun-Protection-Prevents-Canine-Heat-Exhaustion-from-Ruff-Wear But I’m not sure if its good for him to be in the water all time, hes already dandruffy and i know baths too often are bad for that.

Any suggestions on what else I can do to help keep him cool so we can continue getting exercise as it gets warmer?

You bring him into the house and turn on the AC or put a fan near where he sleeps. If you feel your dog is exercise intolerant, please speak to the vet about that as it could be a symptom of a problem. It could also be he is not conditioned enough for the amount or type of exercise you are giving him. Try cutting back and see if it helps.

Do dog boots make our canine friends run faster?

Posted under canine cooler

I recently purchased a set of black running shoes for my dog belle. She was at first apprehensive, but got used to them rather quickly. I took her on a few runs and she ran pretty well in them, even faster than usual. I was happy with the purchase, and i thought she was too…. but…. now she thinks she is the coolest, she prances around feeling like a princess. She is a showoff, she runs up to other dogs and brags about her shoes in dog language to them, once they are interested in her kicks she takes off knowing they cant keep up because they don’t have shoes. I like the protection the shoes provide, but i hate the attitude it gives belle. Now she refuses to go outside even to use the bathroom without her shoes on. Her shoes are black and they match her perfectly, but the other day at the park she saw a lab with bright yellow shoes on and i knew instantly she was jealous, she cried, she barked, she growled…. when i got her home it was all she could do in her depressed state to stumble to the corner and glare at me all night. All because she wanted the yellow shoes. I dont know what do do, she loves her shoes so much, but they are really turning her into a real bitch. Any help would be appreciated.

Well, at least you are a fun and creative troll, unlike most! Pretty funny story! Have you considered writing children’s books because I think you would be good at it. This is not an insult! I am serious! For kids you would have to change the word bitch to brat or something, though!

There is no heaven if my dog won’t go to heaven…?

Posted under canine supplements

I have the best friend I’ve ever had and ever will. She’s almost 9 years old and I’ve had her since she was a pup. She’s truly, the most awesome dog; the most beautiful yellow labrador ever to be born. But my mom spaded her a few years ago, a sin I will never forgive. I cry so much just thinking about that, how stupid I was to not stop her. I wish I had, then my dog would live through her pups, and she would be the first of a line of canine family. I cry even more thinking about the day she will die, for she is old now. She spends most of the day just laying down now, and groaning every so often from joint pain. How stupid I was not to give her joint supplements. How stupid I was to play on the computer when my dog whined for attention. Damnit, this world is cruel. I’ve neglected the only living thing I love with my whole heart, and now it is too late. There is no heaven if my dog won’t go to heaven. Then I want to go where she goes, in the afterlife I hope exists, so that I can be with her for eternity.
I wonder, what life would be like with her. I wonder if there will be other dogs there too, dogs she can play with, a past-time my dog has been robbed of because my parents would not get another dog. I wonder, will I see you there?…

You need to do a google search and read up on the Rainbow Bridge. I believe in heaven and I believe our dogs wait for the time when we will join them. Till then, they find lots of doggie friends to play with and they don’t want us to rush to join them while they wait as they are out of pain. They want us to live a full and happy life till it’s our time to join them.
AND
Stop crying because your mother had her spayed. There are illnesses female dogs can get if not spayed and so her health is better because she was spayed. AND… it’s not a good plan to breed a dog just because you want her to live on with you through her children. Most dogs should be spayed or neutered so they can avoid some illnesses that are cruel to them, and so the world is not overrun with dogs and no owners to love them.

If you have ignored your dog, change how you interact with her NOW.
Stop complaining and moaning about what you may have done wrong; your distress will upset your dog and make her unhappy.
Stop complaining about her being spayed and bemoaning that fact; she feels your distress and you make her unhappy.

Rejoice in her wonderful personality.
Start giving her the attention you’ve not given her.
Stop wasting your time worrying, being upset, complaining. That makes her unhappy. -!-

I understand heartguard works 1 month back is this true?

Posted under heartguard

For innstance if you administered july 1 you dog would be covered thru june, true?

More or less. The way Heartgard (and Interceptor and the other oral preventatives) works is by killing all the existing L3 larva up to a month old. (L3 is the 3rd stage of the heartworm larva; it’s the stage that transfer from an infected mosquito to the dog.)

So if you gave one Heartgard on June 1, it would kill all the 30-day or younger L3 larva, but then it would be totally out of the dog’s system within a day. So a mosquito could bite your dog and infect it with heartworm larvae on June 2. Those larva would be unaffected by the June dose, but they would die as soon as you dosed in July.

But once larvae become much more than 30 days old, they start getting resistant to the Heatgard. If you give the dose more than a week late, it’s possible that larvae could still survive the treatment. Also, there have been studies that show certain strains of heartworms may take three consecutive months of treatment to keep them from surviving to become adult worms. That’s why it’s important never to miss a monthly dose and to give preventative all year round, even if you have a few mosquito-free months in the winter.
