is grape seed extract in a canine joint supplement harmful?
Posted under canine supplementsi recently purchased a product from a company called liquid health. the product is their level 5000 joint health supplement which has 75 mg of grape seed extract per 1 oz serving, among many other beneficial ingredients. the canine should be administered the level 5000 product at 2 oz per day for a two week loading up phase, and then 1 oz per day after that. i have not yet begun administering the supplement to my 6.5 year old french mastiff because he recently had his torn acl fixed, and his knee cap relocated to a more anatomically correct location at the same time, and he had been on antibiotics and two pain medications in addition to his normal vitamins and joint supplements. i did not want to stress his system anymore than i had to by changing his joint supplement during an already difficult time for my boy. now i am rethinking administration of the product at all, however, based on a list i viewed recently of foods canines should not be fed, which included grape seed extract.
Yeah don't.
It's just more snake oil. If you can, take it back for cash.
It won't help and can make your Frenchie sick.

basically they KNOW that grapes are toxic to dogs. What they don't know is why, or what part of the grape is actually toxic. Nor do they know how much is toxic to a dog. Noone has figured out exactly which part of a grape or how much it takes…so personally i would avoid ANY part of a grape. That's just me.
