Where Can I Buy HeartGuard For My Golden Retriever?

Posted under heartguard

i am looking to buy heartguard for my dog what stores can u buy this stuff at ? and do u have to have a prescription?

You will need a perscription from your vet no matter where you get the Heartguard. I get mine thru my vet but there are many on line places where you can get it. All require a perscription.

Does heartguard prevent all worms or just heart worms?

Your vet will have what you need. You can also purchase pet supplies through PetMeds Online but I would not suggest that before seeing your veterinarian, they have to do a heartworm test before the dog can start taking it. Also, these kinds of products go by the weight of the animal and you'll need to know this before buying online.

If you live in the US, Heartgard is a prescription-only product. You'll need to go to your vet to purchase it or to get a prescription to purchase it online. Your vet will do a heartworm test first, to make sure your dog does not already have heartworms. If your dog tests negative, he can be put on Heartgard – your vet will sell it to you, or you can request a prescription so you can buy it online. If your dog tests positive, your dog will need to be treated for the existing heartworms before you can put it on heartworm prevention.

Edit: I'm assuming all of these people who say you don't need a prescription are not in the US. If you're in another country, you can probably call a vet & they'll tell you if you need a prescription or not. If you're in the US, a prescription is required to purchase heartworm prevention.

In USA you need a prescription. You need to get it from a veterinary hospital, either the one you use currently or another one. You have to have the script so that if you chose another hospital (if your current one only stocks Interceptor). The reason why you need a script- god forbid your dog is positive for heartworm and you start him/her on pills- Bye bye to your dog!Beware of internet pharmacies- no guarantee from heatworm pill manufacturer
